How to Turn Off Shop the Look and Shopping Pins on Pinterest

Pinterest doesn’t let you turn off “Shop the look”, product pins or other shopping features. We checked Pinterest’s help center and found no setting for it. You can nudge your feed with “See fewer like this” and by hiding shopping ads, and on a desktop browser you can hide shopping pins and the “Shop the look” block completely with an extension.
Below: what each shopping feature actually is, what Pinterest’s settings can and can’t do, and how to hide them.
What are shopping pins, product tags and “Shop the look”?
Pinterest uses several shopping features, and they’re easy to mix up. Here’s what Pinterest’s own help pages say about each.
Product pins
Pinterest says product Pins “feature products that are available to buy from the merchants listed in the Pins.” Retailers create them in bulk by uploading a catalog, and they show pricing, availability and other product details. Pinterest also notes that product Pins are distributed organically, which means you’ll see them even when nobody paid to show them to you.
“Shop the look”
When you open a pin, Pinterest may show related product pins under a Shop the look heading. On desktop it sits next to or under the pin. In the app you scroll down to Shop the look or Shop similar, as described in shopping with Pinterest. Behind it is visual search: Pinterest engineers described in a 2020 paper how the system detects objects in an image and matches them to products you can buy.
Product tags
Some pins have white dots on them. Pinterest calls these collections Pins: business accounts tag products in an image by hand, and tapping a dot shows exact or similar products to buy.
Shop tabs and product filters
Some boards have a Shop option at the top that shows shopping ideas related to the board. In search, you can filter results to Products.
Shopping ads
Retailers can also pay to promote their product pins as shopping ads. Those are ads, and they show up among the product pins you browse.
| Feature | What it is | Is it an ad? |
|---|---|---|
| Product pin | A pin for a product with price and availability | No, unless promoted |
| “Shop the look” / “Shop similar” | Product pins matched to the pin you opened | No, it’s a Pinterest module |
| Product tags (white dots) | Products tagged in an image by a business | No |
| Shop tab, Products filter | Shopping views on boards and in search | No |
| Shopping ad | A product pin someone paid to promote | Yes |
Can you turn off shopping on Pinterest?
No. We looked through Pinterest’s help center for a way to turn off “Shop the look”, product pins or shopping recommendations, and there isn’t one.
The closest setting is Refine your recommendations. According to Pinterest’s tune your home feed page, it has two tabs: AI content, for seeing fewer AI-generated pins, and Activity, for stopping recommendations based on pins you’ve engaged with. Neither one controls shopping.
Ad personalization under Privacy and data changes what information Pinterest uses to choose ads. It doesn’t turn off shopping modules, and it doesn’t reduce the number of ads.
Don’t expect a shopping toggle soon, either. In 2023 Pinterest’s CEO described the company’s goal as “making every Pin shoppable,” and in October 2025 Pinterest announced an AI shopping assistant and AI-curated shopping. We cover the bigger picture in why Pinterest has so many ads.
How can you see fewer shopping pins with Pinterest’s own settings?
These work on desktop and in the iPhone and Android apps. None of them remove shopping completely.
Tell Pinterest to show fewer like it
- On a product pin in your home feed, click or tap the ellipsis in the bottom-right corner.
- Choose See fewer like this (some app versions say “See less”).
Pinterest describes this in hide a Pin on your home feed. Menu wording changes from time to time.
Hide shopping ads and block advertisers
- Click or tap the three dots on the ad.
- Choose the option to hide it.
- For advertisers that keep coming back, open their profile and block it. Pinterest says you can block up to 1,000 advertisers.
If the shopping pins you’re tired of come mostly from one store like Temu or Amazon, see how to stop seeing Temu and Amazon ads on Pinterest.
Clean up your activity
If you’ve clicked a lot of product pins, Pinterest may keep recommending more. Under Refine your recommendations, open the Activity tab and stop recommendations based on those pins. On desktop it’s under the more-options icon at the bottom left. In the app, tap your profile picture, then the icon at the top right.
Skip the shopping views
The Shop option on boards and the Products filter in search are opt-in. If you don’t open them, you won’t see those views.
There’s no native way to hide the “Shop the look” section on a pin page. You can only scroll past it.
How do you hide shopping pins and “Shop the look” for free?
If you use Pinterest in a desktop browser, an extension can hide what Pinterest’s settings can’t.
Feed Cleaner for Pinterest hides shopping pins and the “Shop the look” block, along with other suggestion blocks like “Popular on Pinterest” (Feed Cleaner is our extension). You can switch each one back on if you decide you want it. It also removes ads and promoted pins on the home feed, in search results and on pin pages, in 25+ languages and on 22 Pinterest country domains.
It’s free, with no account and no tracking. Ads are hidden with CSS before they render, so the page doesn’t flicker, and you choose how the gap an ad leaves is handled: Remove lets the grid reflow, Blank keeps an empty card so nothing shifts, and Swap covers the ad with a similar-shaped pin from your feed.
To go further, Feed Cleaner Pro adds a keyword filter for hiding pins whose title or description contains words you pick, and a site blocker for hiding every pin from a store like amazon.com.
Two limits to know: it’s an extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, and it doesn’t work inside the Pinterest phone apps. Pinterest isn’t affiliated with it.
FAQ
How do I turn off “Shop the look” in the Pinterest app?
You can’t. The app has no setting for it. You can scroll past it, or use “See fewer like this” on product pins in your home feed.
Are shopping pins ads?
Not always. Product pins are distributed organically, so many have no ad label. They’re only ads when a retailer pays to promote them as shopping ads.
Will hiding shopping pins also hide ads?
Feed Cleaner treats them separately: ads and promoted pins are removed on their own, and shopping pins and “Shop the look” have their own switches.
Wrapping up
Pinterest is leaning into shopping, not away from it, and there’s no switch to turn off “Shop the look” or product pins. In the app, “See fewer like this”, hiding ads and cleaning up your activity are what you’ve got. On a computer, a free extension can hide the shopping blocks entirely, and you can turn any of them back on whenever you like.
