Best Pinterest Image Downloaders: 5 Ways Compared

For one image, Pinterest’s built-in Download image option is the quickest, and changing the image link to originals gets you the largest size, both free. For saving images often on a computer, a browser extension with a download button saves clicks. For whole boards, use a board downloader. Downloader websites work on a phone but come with ads and privacy trade-offs.

A quick word on copyright
Downloading isn’t the same as being allowed to reuse. Pinterest’s copyright page says “a copyright is generally owned by whomever creates the work.” Saving an image as a reference or mood board for yourself is one thing; posting it, selling it or printing it for others needs the creator’s permission.
1. Pinterest’s Download image option
Pinterest has its own download option on the web and in the app:
- Open the pin, or find it in your feed.
- Click or tap the … (ellipsis).
- Choose Download image.
On Android it saves to your gallery, and on iPhone to Photos. Pinterest notes that not all pins can be downloaded, and its help page doesn’t say what size you get.
Good for: quick saves on any device, no extra tools.
2. The originals link trick
Pinterest stores each image in several sizes, and the link shows which one you’re looking at (236x, 736x and so on). Replace that part of the link with originals and you get the file as it was uploaded, usually much bigger than what the feed shows. Good for: the best quality, free, on a computer. Fiddly on a phone and slow for many images.
3. A browser extension with a download button
An extension can do the originals trick for you. 4. Board downloaders
If you need a whole board, saving pins one by one is slow. Board downloaders grab them in bulk:
- Pin Toolbox saves boards as a ZIP or PDF. Its listing says the free demo covers the first 15 pins and the full version is paid.
- Pinterest Image Downloader lets you select pins and download them in bulk, including videos as MP4, free per its listing.
- Pinterest Board Saver downloads in bulk from boards, profiles and search, per its listing.
Bulk tools may save the size shown on the board rather than the original, so check a few files before you rely on them.
Good for: archiving your own boards or collecting references for a project.
5. Downloader websites
Sites like SavePin and KlickPin let you paste a pin link and download the image or video, which is handy on a phone. Both say they aren’t affiliated with Pinterest and work only with public pins. KlickPin says it’s ad-supported and doesn’t upscale images.
The trade-offs: you’re sending the pin link to a third party, the pages are usually full of ads, and you often can’t tell what size you’re getting.
Good for: the occasional video, or a phone with no other option.
