How to Get Rid of AI on Pinterest (Desktop and App)

You can’t get rid of AI on Pinterest completely, but you can cut it down a lot. In the app or on desktop, open Refine your recommendations, go to the AI content tab and switch off Show AI content. Then use the “see fewer” option on any AI pin that still gets through, and on a computer, use a browser extension to hide every pin Pinterest labels as AI.
Below are the exact steps for each, what Pinterest’s own controls leave out, and a few habits that keep your feed more human.
How do you turn off AI on Pinterest?
Pinterest added AI controls on October 16, 2025. Its announcement describes a “tuner” that lets you see less GenAI content on eligible image pins, and you can change it whenever you like. The steps below follow Pinterest’s help article Tune your home feed. Pinterest moves its menus around now and then, so if a label looks slightly different on your screen, look for the same words.
On desktop (pinterest.com)
- Log in to Pinterest in your browser.
- Click the more options (settings) icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Select Refine your recommendations.
- Click the AI content tab.
- Switch off Show AI content to turn off every AI topic at once, or switch off individual topics under Manage AI content by topic.
In the iPhone and Android app
- Open the Pinterest app and log in.
- Tap your profile picture at the bottom right.
- Tap the more options icon at the top right.
- Tap Refine your recommendations.
- Tap the AI content tab, then switch off Show AI content or pick topics one by one.
On a business account, the path is profile photo, then the ellipsis icon, then Settings, then Refine your recommendations.
The controls arrived on the website and Android first and reached iOS over the following weeks, TechCrunch reported. If you don’t see the AI content tab, update the app.
Use “see fewer” on individual AI pins
When an AI pin shows up anyway:
- Find the pin in your feed.
- Click or tap the three-dot icon at the bottom right of the pin.
- Choose the option to see fewer AI pins.
Pinterest’s help page for this option says it’s only available for pins in certain categories, and that choosing it sends a signal to recommend less of that kind of content. It’s a nudge, not a delete button.
What about reporting AI pins?
There is no “this is AI” reason in Pinterest’s report flow that we could find, and a food blogger told Bloomberg the same thing about AI copies of her recipes. Report Pin (in the pin’s ellipsis menu) is for policy problems like spam. Use it when an AI pin is also spammy or misleading, and use “see fewer” for the rest.
Which categories does Pinterest’s AI filter cover?
At launch, Pinterest’s tuner covered architecture, art, beauty, entertainment, men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, health, home decor and sport. Food and drink was added in a December 12, 2025 update to the same announcement, and Pinterest says more categories will follow.
That’s a useful list, but it isn’t everything you might browse. Check the Manage AI content by topic list in your own settings to see exactly what’s covered for you.
Why do AI pins still show up after you turn it off?
Three reasons, mostly built into how the feature works:
- It reduces, it doesn’t remove. Pinterest talks about seeing “less” GenAI content. Germany’s heise put it plainly: AI content “cannot be completely switched off.”
- It only knows about pins Pinterest has detected. Pinterest’s Gen AI labels page says labels come from image metadata (it follows the IPTC metadata standard), from its own classifiers, and from creators who say AI was involved. Detection misses a lot. An October 2025 audit by Indicator found Pinterest was the best of five platforms at labeling AI images, and still labeled only 55% of them.
- Topics outside the list aren’t touched.
We go deeper on all of this in what the see fewer AI pins setting actually does.
How do you hide AI pins completely on desktop?
If you use Pinterest on a computer, you can go further than “fewer”. Feed Cleaner for Pinterest is a browser extension that hides pins Pinterest labels as AI-generated or “AI modified” on your home feed, in search results and on pin pages, in every category, not only the ones in Pinterest’s tuner. (Feed Cleaner is our extension.)
- Install it from the Chrome Web Store or addons.mozilla.org. It works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi.
- Open it from your browser toolbar and switch on AI-generated pins. Labeled AI pins disappear right away.
- Optional: in Settings, turn on the strict filter (Also catch unlabeled AI pins). It also hides unlabeled pins whose title or description mentions AI tools or phrases like “midjourney” or “AI art”. It may hide a few real pins by mistake, so try it and see how it feels.
The AI filter is part of Feed Cleaner Pro. Your first 3 days are free automatically, with no card. After that it’s $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39 once (see pricing). Blocking ads stays free either way.
To be clear about the limits: it relies on Pinterest’s labels plus that optional text check, so an unlabeled AI image with an ordinary description can still slip through. And it doesn’t work in the Pinterest phone apps, because they don’t support extensions. On your phone, Pinterest’s own settings are what you have.
| Option | Where it works | What it does | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show AI content toggle | App and desktop | Fewer GenAI pins in supported topics | Reduces only, some topics |
| “See fewer” on a pin | App and desktop | Signals you want less of that | Certain categories only |
| AI filter extension | Desktop browsers | Hides labeled AI pins in any category | No phone apps, misses unlabeled pins |
Other habits that keep AI out of your feed
- Don’t engage with AI pins. Pinterest’s recommendations take into account the pins you engage with and view. The Activity tab in Refine your recommendations even lets you turn off recommendations based on pins you’ve engaged with or viewed, which is handy if you’ve been clicking around a lot of AI.
- Follow people who make the real thing. Food bloggers who photograph their own cooking, designers who post their own projects, artists who share process shots. Saving from them gives Pinterest a clearer picture of what you want.
- Check before you save. Open the pin and look for the “AI modified” label at the bottom left. For recipes, a too-perfect photo and no comments or ratings are warning signs, as CNN found after a “45-minute” AI recipe took one baker about five hours. Our piece on Pinterest AI slop has more ways to spot them.
- Cut off the sources. On desktop you can block whole websites and accounts that keep feeding you AI images, or hide pins by keyword with words like “AI generated” or “midjourney”.
FAQ
Can you turn off AI on Pinterest completely?
No. Pinterest’s settings reduce GenAI pins in a set of categories but don’t remove them. On desktop, an extension can hide every pin Pinterest has labeled, though unlabeled AI images can still get through.
How do I get rid of AI on the Pinterest app?
Tap your profile picture, then the more options icon, then Refine your recommendations and the AI content tab. Switch off Show AI content, and use “see fewer” in a pin’s three-dot menu when AI still appears.
Why don’t I see the AI content tab?
The controls rolled out gradually, iOS last. Update the Pinterest app, and check again on pinterest.com, where they launched first.
Does Pinterest label all AI pins?
No. Pinterest says its detection isn’t perfect, and an independent audit found it labeled 55% of the AI images tested.
The short version
Turn off Show AI content, tap “see fewer” when AI slips through, and stop engaging with AI pins so the algorithm stops learning that you like them. If you mostly pin on a computer, a filter that hides labeled AI pins takes care of most of what’s left.
